Island hopping on the west side of Sweden in the archipelago close to Gothenburg is where I took off for my vacation. These islands are really worth a visit, the nature being very dramatic with a lot of variation as you can see on the pictures below. Covering both the smooth rocks, green mysterious woods, grasslands and of course the old fishing villages. They are easily accessible in connection to a visit to the city and you reach the islands within 40 to 60 minutes from downtown Gothenburg with a trip involving bus/car/trolley and ferry. Once on the islands the easy and casual outdoor life dominates the activities. Me and my son rented bikes and a golf cart, swam, did some fishing, hiked, ventured to different islands with ferries, ate super fresh seafood and fish – in short, had a great time! We had also planned to go kayaking but the weather and hence the sea was too rough .
We visited the northern islands – Hönö, Öckerö, Rörö, Hyppeln – and the southern islands of Styrsö and Donsö.
